so this is my cousin nicole who is a traveling occupational therapist. she just moved to nyc for a gig up in white plains (yeah we get to hang out all summer!) and the company she works for usually hooks her up with large and swanky apartments. but this time the upper east side digs were a bit on the dingy and boring side. so this past weekend i took my fabric scraps and headed up to see what we could do to liven up the place.

the first LEED residences in brooklyn are having an open house this weekend. (LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work - www.usgbc.org). on feb. 23 + 24 (this sat/sun) from 11am to 6pm and also on march 1 + 2 (sat/sun) from 11am to 6pm the building will be open for inspection (!) there will be all sorts of interesting things happening on both weekends (2pm) like an organic cooking demo and how to repurpose wine bottles. what is unique about this building is that one of the condos will be occupied by CPR - the center for performance research - an organization started by the two dance companies chez bushwick (from my neighborhood) and thin man dance. this partnership is meant to “improve the life of the performing arts community in bklyn” as the current real-estate boom threatens to wipe it out. it seems that greenbelt seeks to define sustainability not just within the terms of architecture, interior and product design but also within the terms of maintaining the artistic community that made it cool to live in williamsburg to begin with. bravo greenbelt… more info at www.greenbeltbrooklyn.com. also green drinks happening tonite at the greenbelt 361 manhattan ave. brooklyn… 7-9pm.
getting ready for the holiday craft show being put on by bust magazine a week from today! it should be pretty exciting… amy sedaris will be there selling and signing her book. there will also be a holiday photo studio ready to take your portrait ala sears portrait studio style complete with outlandish holiday sweaters to use for your sitting!
here is a sneak peak at the trio of pieces i have created for the lab101 final show ‘happy endings’. the show will be one nite only! dec. 1st in culver city, CA. i had fun creating these pieces - i love doing hand-painted typography. i have to be in just the right state of mind to bust it out freehand… once i start i’m in some sort of heightened state of hand eye coordination. i’m sure i’m using more percentage of my brain when i do it - maybe i should do it more!
so getting some new things cut out and ready to assemble for the bust craftacular coming up dec. 8th… will have quite a few new things which is exciting since i feel like i’ve been churning out the same things for well… the past two years!
